The story of Christian Dior sounds like such a familiar story...a young Frenchmen, his parents wanted him to be a diplomat so he went to university and studied Politics. After which his father did compromise and helped him get set up in a small art gallery, but this was short lived as the family faced a financial crisis and the gallery had to be sold.
Following this stint he ended up in the fashion industry and ultimately went out on his own to form the fashion house of Dior. In this he was backed by a wealthy cotton industry magnate, Marcel Boussac. Dior quickly developed a name for himself and established a new aesthetic which became known simply as the "New Look", characterized by much more effeminate and voluptuous designs than were common in the late 1940s.
Today the Dior brand is synonymous with French fashion and the brand has of course extended into many areas including their high end dior sunglasses made famous by fans such as Paris Hilton and Carmen Electra. Some of their most popular sunglass models include the Cannage, the Airspeed, and the Diorissimo.
Dior current aesthetic is inspired by oversized sunglass styles of the 60s and 70s but with a contemporary twist of course.
