Snowboard Bindings

After your board the next most important part of your set up is your snowboard bindings. I know it is tempting to spend all your money on your board (I have done it myself), but trust me it is so worthwhile getting the best snowboard bindings you can afford.More

I have always had cheap snowboard bindings myself in the past, normally hand-me-downs from friends upgrading, but I got myself a set of brand new Burton Custom Bindings last year and I can not believe the difference it makes…

Tips for buying snowboard bindings

All the major manufacturers have their own ranges of snowboard bindings, so the selection is huge. Here are my tips for finding the right bindings for you…

Start with your boots – Choosing the right boots is a whole other topic, but assuming you have made that decision then I would look seriously at buying your bindings from the same manufacturer. Point being that they design their boots and snowboard bindings to go together, so it stands to reason that they will work well if they come from the same place. Every boot has its own footprint (literally) and the bindings will be designed to match that if they are made by the same manufacturer. This also goes for the way straps are positioned an so forth, which is why it makes sense to get your bindings and boots together.

Look for strength – Your bindings are the part of your set up with the most moving parts and aside from your edges probably get the toughest work out…seriously, when you are carving and tweaking your boots in those bindings through the park they are getting twisted and have an enormous amount of pressure on them. I shudder to think about some of the crappy plastic bindings we used to use in the day. It is remarkable there were not more accidents. Strength in your bindings is really important. Fair to say that the more expensive bindings use the best materials designed for strength but also to be light at the same time.

Check the reviews and buy the best you can afford – I said this already, but this is basically what it boils down to. You will never regret spending a bit more on your snowboard bindings, because good bindings are so much more comfortable and will perform so much better in terms of fit, strength, weight and longevity.
