About K2 Snowboards
The home of K2 Snowboards is in the shadows of the Pacific Northwest Cascade mountains, and in the backcountry of Mt. Baker. From the beginning, the company has been focussed on doing something original with their design and technology. The first K2 snowboard came off the line in 1987. The Gyrator was a bit of a revolution as the first ever cap construction board. The Gyrator was constructed with a fiberglass wrapped foam core, aluminum bindings, ABS top sheet, and steel edges.
K2 has always designed and manufactured their own boards on Vashon Island, WA. Case in point K2 created a unique Hybrid construction method in 1990 which took advantage of both laminate and torsion box techniques to maximise torsional strength, lightweight and durability.
Finally, we could write about the history of K2 Snowboards without mentioning some of the great names that they have supported over the years. Some of the best pro-riders in the industry like Nye Donnelly, Dobis, Riggins, Perata, Merriman, Legaz and last but not least the big Farmer. Legends all of them.
