Audible

The ski season finally kicked in the past weekend...two days of perfect weather and acceptable snow conditions, nice time. More snow's coming too, so hopefully it'll get even better, albeit late in the season.

Jennifer and Flynn drove down to the mountain on Thursday night and I followed Friday after work. With 4 hours driving by myself each way, and prompted by their sponsorship of Leo Laporte's Twit network, I thought I would give Audible.com a crack and try an eBook for the journey.

Getting set up was a bit of a nightmare...partly because I was in a hurry Friday afternoon and didn't bother with the instructions, so I struggled to configure the Audible software and special iPod download manager...I don't know why I needed to download two pieces of software so maybe I am still doing something wrong. In any event, I managed to download Malcolm Gladwell's Blink (read by Gladwell himself).

Set up hassles aside I am totally sold on eBooks. Didn't get through the whole thing over the weekend, but just finished it this morning which means I managed to knock it off in about 1/100th the time if I was just reading a few pages a night. Blink is a thoroughly good read listen too (implicit association testing is fascinating). Now I'm combing through the catalogue looking for everything else I've been meaning to read for ages.

Suggest you give it a try and if you go to www.audible.com/twit you get your first ebook free. Nice.

This is a cool site/service. I believe it will be especially good for long journey. It may also save my reading life as a slow reader:-)
