Apple – Thoughts on Music

6 February 2007 | 0 Comments

From Steve Jobs post on the Apple website:

Why would the big four music companies agree to let Apple and others distribute their music without using DRM systems to protect it? The simplest answer is because DRMs haven’t worked, and may never work, to halt music piracy.

Wow, this is pretty big. Lots of commentary popping up all over the place...some saying that this is just Jobs positioning himself as the thought leader because he knows the majors are about to go DRM free anyway.

But honestly, either way, who cares. This is a majorly powerful voice in the whole equation coming out and saying exactly what Cory Doctorow said so eloquently way back in 2004 to that crowd at Microsoft...namely that DRM is destined to fail.

These be interesting times.

(via Calacanis...you said it, somewhere Cory Doctorow is smiling)
