Fax Spam

How is it that no one seems as concerned about fax spam? If you have a fax machine, particularly for a business, you undoubtedly receive a stack of fax spam on a daily basis…everything from stationary supplies to training services and carpet cleaning.

I guess no one talks about it so much because it doesn’t clog up anyone’s personal inbox like email spam…except now it is clogging up my inbox. Our incoming faxes are delivered as PDFs to my email (and Dave’s), and I am geting bloody fed up having to open everyone to see if it is legit or not.

If you are sending bulk faxes like this you should consider two things:

  1. Personally I will never buy anything from someone who spams…and this is spam. I didn’t ask for it, and while the office does need to have the carpet cleaned occasionally I don’t consider unsolicited offers for such as relevant to my business.
  2. You might also want to consider what implications there might be from the new anti-spam legislation that’s just come into effect here in New Zealand. I am getting you unsolicited faxes as email (as I’m sure many people are)…and the new legislation has some pretty stiff penalties, up to $500k per offense for spamming.

    Hi,
I take it you’ve had a bit of trouble with fax spam.. I’m having sometimes half a dozen fax calls a day 0000overseas call, 000, 501 are what they show up as in caller id.. couple of questions for you.
How did you set it up so faxes end up in an email box? I dont have a fax machine and these guys have been waking me up and generally been driving me nuts for months (I moved in March since then).
When you receive the faxes as a pdf does it give you a number they have come from?? I need a way to fight back.. lately when I answer these calls I keep the line busy as long as possible.
Contacting my provider about the problem just seems to get me put on hold for hours.. sorry sir we cant help you.. maybe you should then some rubbish about my non existant fax machine.. useless.
I’m starting to get desperate.. just contacted vodafones billing to be put through to tech support now stuck back in the hold loop (have hung up after 40 mins on hold).
One suggestion if you have an old fax machine and the return number is to send them the never ending fax tape the start of the paper to the end and empty their machine of paper (I would love to do this to these guys.. a couple of times a day).
Couple of facts which may be useful:
    Provider: Vodafone
    Line type: Home Residential
    Connection: ADSL
    Fax Machine: None
Phone Number: Unlisted Private.. this number apparently hasn’t been in use for 10 years +
Modem: Dont use one.. ADSL –> Laptop.
