I am not sure I get this…
I have just been given a sneek preview of a new Facebook IM client that is going into beta this Friday. What I like about this Facebook app is there is nothing to download or install, no registration and best of all, all of your friends in Facebook can use it instantly.

Doesn’t everyone already use one or another flavor of IM…why would a Facebook IM be so compelling? For me Facebook is an asynchronous social network, and if I really want asyncronous IM I’ll use Twitter already.
The beauty of IM is it’s that it is real time (synchronous) and for that I’ve already got a network built around Trellian (with various aggregated IM handles) and Skype.

I did a total double take just now while driving back to the office...
On the motorway overpass by the Victoria Park Markets there's a big billboard promoting Vodafone Broadband...the interesting bit is the huge "boingboing.net"...very unexpected.
It doesn't use the BoingBoing logo, and the creative is a rather strange context for "BoingBoing.net" to appear in, but it's unmistakably a real world link to boingboing.net. I guess someone at Vodafone (or perhaps their agency) is a fan.
I didn't have time to get my phone out, but will try to get back there later. Here's the pic:

My server guy is upgrading PHP/MySQL and Apache for me this afternoon Sevastopol time, so I’ll be sound asleep…hopefully nothing breaks.
The interesting thing is what prompted me to do the upgrade in the first instance…hopefully that will be the subject of a blog post in the near future.

Funky Kingston by Toots & The Maytals would get my vote...it is just so damn infectious. I defy you to listen to it and not jig in your chair if not actually get up and start jamming, so sweet.

I've been leaning on the del.icio.us crutch too long, at the expense of any real blogging. So my del.icio.us bookmarks are now relegated to the sidebar (you can always subscribe to them here). I hope this forces me to actually write something...
In the meantime you should watch this tribute to Craig Kelly again. Dude's a legend.

How is it that no one seems as concerned about fax spam? If you have a fax machine, particularly for a business, you undoubtedly receive a stack of fax spam on a daily basis...everything from stationary supplies to training services and carpet cleaning.
I guess no one talks about it so much because it doesn't clog up anyone's personal inbox like email spam...except now it is clogging up my inbox. Our incoming faxes are delivered as PDFs to my email (and Dave's), and I am geting bloody fed up having to open everyone to see if it is legit or not.
If you are sending bulk faxes like this you should consider two things:
- Personally I will never buy anything from someone who spams...and this is spam. I didn't ask for it, and while the office does need to have the carpet cleaned occasionally I don't consider unsolicited offers for such as relevant to my business.
- You might also want to consider what implications there might be from the new anti-spam legislation that's just come into effect here in New Zealand. I am getting you unsolicited faxes as email (as I'm sure many people are)...and the new legislation has some pretty stiff penalties, up to $500k per offense for spamming.
