In private beta...you can bling out your pix with speech bubbles and other cool stuff. Sounds like a more sophisticated variant on the site we launched for HOT at putmeinparadise.co.nz. I still reckon we could take the engine behind that and do a really c

Debatable
If I had more time I’d love to build a site to power online debates. I reckon it would generate some really compelling content. It would work something like this:
- Anyone can propose a resolution (w/out registration), and in doing so invite people to represent the affirmative and negative sides. They can themselves take one of those roles or invite two other people to participate.
- The system will send out email invites to each side with links to accept the invitation. Once both sides have accepted the affirmative side will receive a unique link to which enables them to post the first affirmative constructive.
- Once the first affirmative post is submitted the negative will similarly receive a link to post, and so on in the standard debating model.
Once the debate has been completed readers will be able to vote on the winner. It could also have comments enabled for each argument, although not sure if it would be better to keep these closed until the debate itself was complete.
Each debate would have feeds and the site would provide easy ways to navigate the active debates etc. You’d launch it of course by inviting well known web personalities to debate contentious issues.
Just seems to me this would be a cool way to generate some really interesting public discourse. Has anything like this be done already in a fashion that enables anyone to launch a debate at anytime. I’ve had a little look around and havn’t seen anything quite like I am imagining, but it seems so obvious I wouldn’t be surprised if it hasn’t been done before. Perhaps though there’s space to update the concept a bit with some neato 2.0 stuff.
I havn’t been able to find a good domain for something like this. I was hoping for debatable.com, but of course that was long gone.
