How to get under my skin

Document in annoying detail something completely obvious and then declare it like you’ve just discovered the secret to perpetual motion.

I’m sure Steve Rubel is a decent guy, but he does have a habit of coming up with stuff like this. Dude, you’ve just described Google book search, so what.

I read somewhere that he was gaming Digg and not being serious.

Actually, I think it was someone else doing the Digg thing (as reported by Richard McManus), but from what I can tell that was also a bit of a non story…people have been doing this kind of thing on Digg and Del.icio.us forever, and it is ultimately futile because gaming only gets you banned (as in this example on Digg) or ‘ignored’ (which is easy on del.icio.us).

My personal gripe is the blog entry that begins “I used to think X was dumb and I avoided at all times. But then I tried/saw/heard X and now know why X is so popular. Here is why …”

Really they should be embarrassed they have been closed minded and late in the game, but instead they think they are telling the world about an unknown gem.

And don’t even get me started on Digg. Yesterday a pal posted a digg basedupon something I took some pictures of. It got over 150 diggs and on the front page and then these digg savants got all upity about it and demanded it be removed. Really I don’t care less. I post what I think my friends may want to know about.

Check out how aggro they got. Many didn’t read fully about it.

It was very slashdot-like in hind sight. I’m sure the digg guys will review their algorhythms and make it killer again, but bands of grumpy people will sink even the happiest community in not too much time…

Ah…nothing like a bunch of killjoys to stomp through your garden declaring their opinions about it without stopping to smell the roses.

Exactly! That is the first thing that came to my mind when I had read that post.
