Oooo...zoomin.co.nz is street maps for New Zealand in the style of Google Maps, which is great because Google Maps doesn't cover NZ in any detail...sweet.
The really tantalizing bit is from the about page where they allude to the ability to post maps on your own site...some kind of API I wonder(?). I hope so.
Yeah, just noticed that something is screwy with Delivr...user specific searches are not working.
Looking into it now and hopefully it is simple enough. I suspect changes in the Flickr API will require some tweaks for Delivr, but we'll see. I've lost track of the conversation in the developers forum so I am not sure what's been going on with the API recently.
Cool...on the day I posted the link the subscriber count went up to nearly 600 after Cory posted about it on Boing Boing, but that has naturally settled back after a few days.
This chicklet will let you do just that...doesn't matter when you first subscribe, this feed will deliver the book to your feed reader in the right order, a couple of chapters a day, over the next month. You could even subscribe via WINKsite and get it all on your mobile phone...
[If you're reading this in a feed reader you'll have to visit the site to see this javascript generated link]
I am not convinced that novels are the ideal use for this sort of scheduled RSS delivery mechanism (who's to say how fast or slowly you'd like to read the novel), but I am sure there are useful applications for this approach, perhaps delivering training materials and the like.
Anyway, do let me know what you think or if you have any issues with it.
UPDATE: I've had a few questions about what's behind this feed...so if you're interested, it is hosted by FeedHoster.
And I'll wait a few days before giving out actual numbers, but at this time the feed is pushing 400 600 subscribers. Nice.
UPDATE 2: I should also mention that this individualized RSS concept is not new. Russell Beattie was thinking about it ages ago and had a brilliant implementation in Mobdex. It is a crime that Mobdex didn't take off.
Ok, this ones for the fella's...you can subscribe to all the funny stuff I find online either via email or RSS. Choose your preference and laugh along:
You have to hand it to Jason Calacanis and Co. It's not like there are any barriers to entry in this sort of game...they've just executed better than most. And with that in mind, my favorite line from his 'what's next?' post:
Mark Cuban (who's the best investor you could ever have btw) always said "let's not drown in opportunity" when he, my partner Brian and I would talk about the business.
To me that speaks volumes about the way they've focussed hard on the basics. I suspect this is one of the reasons we havn't heard much about Blogsmith, WIN's proprietry blogging platform...and indeed why that was set up as a separate entity with a separate CEO etc.
Way back in March this year Ross Mayfield started a cool list of dream mergers...my guess at the time was that Upcoming would be acquired by Evite:
my prediction is that Evite buys Upcoming in late 2005/early 2006 after it has gone fully viral and Upcoming event lists are a routine addition to the blog of any serious scenester.
I wasn't so bold as to predict a Yahoo! acquisition...that is bloody brilliant. Andy Baio is one of the most gifted and savvy developers around, so it is well deserved. As a dedicated Waxy links fan I just hope that his link posting frequency doesn't suffer.
Andy, on the off chance you read this I was thinking of emailing you a while back to offer you a URL I registered, onlocally.com...I figured that it might be a better domain in the long run if you wanted to commercialize the service. Probably a mute point now, but the offer still stands if you want it.
