FYI

30 September 2004 | 0 Comments

If you have a baby, at some point everything you own will be vomited on. There is a good chance it will be peed and pooped on aswell…combined with the enormous amount of required baby paraphernalia which unavoidably overtakes every room in the house, this makes it impossible to maintain your minimalist (and tidy) interior design look.

There’s a reason you don’t see ads for diapers in Wallpaper magazine…but then again, who needs it? Flynn is the shizz.

PVR

You can’t get TIVO in Autralia at this time, but we did just buy a Topfield PVR (yeah, I had never heard of them either). It is sitting at home in the box and I am at work…can’t wait to get into it tonight, very excited.

One interesting feature is a USB interface for PCs…not sure if that means not Mac, or that the PVR drive can be reached just like an external drive. I hope so, because that would provide all sorts of interesting possibilities for recording and mashing up TV broadcasts using iMovie. All sorts of possibility to go foul of copyright law no doubt too.

I guess I’ll have to start frequenting PVRBlog now.

FeedBurnerâ„¢ is on a roll

28 September 2004 | 0 Comments

I was just pondering the other day that the Feedburner weblog as been a bit quiet recently, and it did occurr to me that this probably meant they’re were busy with some big stuff in the background…turns out that is exactly the case.

They’ve made two big announcements in quick succession. First the integration of Creative Commons licenses. This is cool, and reflects some deep thinking about the implications of performing feed algebra…thinking that I never did when putting Rollup together.

The second announcement sees Feedburner bringing on the commerce with Amazon Web Services Integration. I don’t think it will make many bloggers rich, but it is a bloody great example of what’s possible and sets you wondering what will be next…

I wonder when Feedburner’s commerical plays will be rolled out…an RSS ad network of some sort, premium services for publishers maybe??

Thanks Waxy, I have been thoroughly enjoying the A Night at the Hip Hopera. Favorite track at this stage, Ride, mashing up Bicycle Race and Slim Shady.

Comment Spam

Check out the comment spam on this post over at Many2Many!

Either MassageLondon.org is spectacularly clueless, they’re the victims of malicious comment spammers trying to discredit them, or they’ve foolishly hired some dodgy “SEO” agent to increase their page rank…doh!

UPDATE: The offending comment has of course been cleaned out.

Pretty In Pink

26 September 2004 | 1 Comment

Best ever punk rock allusion to Molly Ringwald?

Definitely Social Distortion’sPretty in Pink“…damn what a fine song. It’s real rawk, best played with real guitars like a White Falcon…but then that’s just my preference.

…and Pretty In Pink, man doesn’t that take you back. Of course, the best ever 80′s romantic teen comedy wasCan’t By Me Love. Patrick Dempsey must be the most underrated thespian of the genre, and CBML had the best lines…”cards with the tards” anyone, “chips, dips, and dorks!”. Classic stuff.

This is another in the irregular series of pop culture/music/movie recollections.

The Social Software Weblog

26 September 2004 | 0 Comments

Judith Meskill really does a great job covering the social software space over at the The Social Software Weblog (part of the WIN group of blogs). Actually The SSW is my favorite WIN blog…updated regularly and always with something interesting to say. The social software ‘space’ is kind of nebulous with everyone adding social networking functionality into their products these days, but Judith does a stand up job of covering developments.

On the other hand I think Harold Check must be getting busy with other things these days because the pace and quality of posts has slowed considerably at the RSS Weblog…still a must read, because they’ll eventually cover all the developing stuff in RSS land, but not as good as it once was, which is a shame because the Lockergnome RSS Resource lost steam aswell. I find the best spot to keep abreast of breaking news in RSS is now over at del.icio.us/tag/rss…”del.icio.us, the way the web was supposed to be”.

Waxy In Print

22 September 2004 | 0 Comments

So I am on a flight to Singapore flicking through a copy of Australian MacWorld magazine and I come across a mention of Andy Baio’s InfocomBot (also mentioned at MacWorld.com)… cool I thought, Waxy’s world famous!

But then I got thinking, why should this strike me as being more significant, somehow more important, than the praise and acknowledgement that has been rightly given Waxy online already…afterall, MacWorld are kinda late to the party, the InfocomBot was introduced way back in March.

I think this inclination to weight print media more is just an artifact of an old mental model…but I would consider myself a reasonably web savvy person, so if I’m still prone to think like that then I wonder how the general populace thinks.

Anyway, I have never really played games much (not since Galaga and Defender were the new thing), but I think I will have to give the InfocomBot a try…afterall, it was in a magazine!

Dual screen laptop patent (pending) for auction on eBay

20 September 2004 | 1 Comment

Now, I don’t know if this eBay auction is a hoax or not, but I reckon the idea of a laptop with a double sided monitor is actually quite a good one….make the top side a touch screen and you’ve got a tablet and a regular style laptop all in one.

Blogrolling Migration

16 September 2004 | 1 Comment

Whoops…looks like the Blogrolling migration wasn’t 100% successfull (or maybe it is just me)…at the time of writing my blogroll sidebar is displaying some funky errors, looks like ‘dcochran’ made a mistake.

Posting this here with trackback to the BR Breaking News blog because I couldn’t post a comment there for some reason.

Gallo Nero

Gallo Nero
Gallo Nero,

I really like these wine glasses which we dragged back from Tuscany way back in 1999. They’re especially cool because they have the Gallo Nero symbol on the side.

The Gallo Nero (The Black Cockerell) is the symbol of a wine co-operative in Tuscany, and is also our adopted family logo/crest…with a surname name like Coxhead you’ve got to improvise. So anyway, the wine is also a little better out of these glasses because Jennifer and I got engaged in Florence when we were in Italy, June 1999.
